Wednesday, March 14, 2018 – Grand Rapids. At the 19th Annual Training Conference for the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals (MATCP) Huron County Senior Trial Attorney David Wallace was elected Treasurer for MATCP. MATCP serves as a voice for Treatment Courts in the state and federal legislatures, and works with the private sector and general public on educating and advancing treatment courts. It also provides education and training for Treatment Court teams at its annual conference. Treatment Courts are programs that hold individuals with substance abuse disorders accountable and address the underlying condition through intensive supervision and long-term treatment.
“I am extremely honored to be elected to this position,” said Mr. Wallace, “MATCP is at the forefront of supporting Treatment Courts in Michigan and is recognized as one of the premier organizations in the country. MATCP is always striving to ensure that all of Michigan’s Treatment Courts are effective in changing behavior and reducing recidivism.”
In the tri-county area of Huron, Tuscola and Sanilac, the Thumb Regional Sobriety Court works to improve public safety by focusing on drivers who operate vehicles while under the influence of legal and illegal substances. Mr. Wallace represents the prosecutor’s office on this Sobriety Court team. Before returning to prosecution, Mr. Wallace was the Senior Director for the National Center of DWI Courts (NCDC) at the National Association of Drug Court Professionals in Alexandria, Virginia. He traveled the country training teams to develop DWI Courts, which are called Sobriety Courts in Michigan.
As the Senior Trial Attorney Mr. Wallace performs a full range of professional assignments in the prosecutor’s office with a focus on Circuit Court matters. He has been an assistant prosecutor for more than three years in Huron County and has over 25 years of experience as an assistant prosecutor through his employment with other prosecutor offices, including Eaton County, Calhoun County and the Prosecutor’s Association of Michigan (PAAM) in Lansing. After working for 7 years at PAAM, he became the director at the NCDC.
