Called Veteran’s Day in the United States and Remembrance Day by the Commonwealth Countries, it is a day to say “Thank you for your service” and to pay our respects to those who have given their lives while in the service of our country.
In 1983, President Ronald Regan stated “Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they’ve suffered the scars fo war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.” Further President John F. Kennedy said: “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.”
November 11, 2023 is the day we recognize our veteran’s, and this office and all of Michigan’s prosecutors thank our state’s veterans for their sacrifice and service and for the important roles they continue to play in our communities.
“Our Veterans are the lifeblood of this nation,” said Timothy Rutkowski, Huron County Prosecutor. He continued stating: “Without their service and dedication, this nation, or this county, wouldn’t be where it is today, an establishment of freedom and independence. We truly owe our veterans’ our thanks. ”
Resources for veterans include the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, which offers information on veterans benefits, discharge documents and assistance in finding a Veteran Service Officer. Another important resource is the Michigan Veterans Crisis Line. Dial 988 and press one, or text to 838255.
On November 11, 2023, this office encourages everyone to take some time and recognize the sacrifice our veterans have given, for their service and for some veterans, their lives in the ultimate sacrifice for the United States.
In the meantime, Veterans, thank you for your service to our country.
